Need clarification

    Now,

    I am messing lately with the idea to get my own DOT, MC and cargo. I would still be contracted with current company but they would only do dispatch and billing. Now my question is, if they technically sell me loads for commission and I run with my signs are safety and DOT only my concerns? They said if anything happens to the load it is still their responsibility? Does that mean cargo claims are still on them or what? I need somebody to clarify that for me.

    We need the clarification . Is your current company a carrier ? Are they listed on the bills as the carrier ? The load has to be under their authority . There would be no point in you getting your own authority .

    To the shipper, your present carrier is responsible. To that carrier/broker you are going to be responsible and any claims will be turned over to your insurance.

    Yes, my current company is a carrier. I would get my own authority in order to grow it slowly and handle the DOT and inspections myself. Cargo claims and stuff are not biggy since I pull a dry van almost dedicated stuff. So, it is still possible to do it that way?

    Your carrier should know if you can do it but one thing to keep in mind . If a single truck operation gets inspected twice and gets put OOS the second time that's 50% OOS . You will have to have a driver file on yourself , belong to a random drug pool and more .

    Appreciate your help guys. That is exactly what I wanted. OOIDA has a lot of valuable info on how to become an O/O. I have no worries about OOS. I try to keep my truck in good shape :D Anybody else has some advice?
