So your already familiar with chaining and securing any load, no matter what it is or how valuable it is? The issue is not heavy haulers telling you to go flatbedding first, they are simply making a recommendation to try and help you..... flatbedding and heavy haul are by no means anything like door slamming. You can have all the knowledge in the world of the business end, and when you dump that load or rip a sign post out things have a different view. I’m sure that is simply what is being recommended by @TripleSix and others. Stay safe out there.
@TripleSix , I am not sure that this thread is going where you intended but it is and hopefully will continue to be great thread!
Speaking of networking, I got to a job site and a workers tell me that they will get to me after lunch. And his boss wants to know if I want to go to lunch. I thought about asking where they were going, but then I saw your post. When someone invites you to lunch, does it matter where? “Sure! I’ll go
Good actually. Most of the rigging crew were younger guys, 20s and 30s, starting families and working. Always inspiring to see young Men working for the future. On that note, I had a female friend tell me that her 20yr old son tested positive for HIV. I’m old school, and so in my mind, that’s a death sentence. Also in my mind is the fact that he’s gay and shares needles. I am trying to figure out what it is that I’m supposed to say.
It's not the death sentence that it was, but DANG. It's not 1980 anymore, it's bloody been four decades...if you get the HIV in this day and age, all I can say is you're pretty dang stupid.
Actually I think they recently tested a treatment for that which worked, I think, but don’t take my word for it. I’ve been drinking so, i may be confused lol.
Great post and a great thread. Networking is a powerful tool/skill to have. Ever seen someone and thought that person sure is lucky a lot? More than likely they are creating their own luck and networking played a huge role in it. Some of the best advice I ever got was to never be the smartest person in my circle. That's why I hang out here on TTR. There is a wealth of information on this website because of the guys doing the job and come on here and talk about it. I've been away from open deck trucking for about 12 years and I'm wanting to get back into it with the goal of doing some OS/OW. Until then I will truck vicariously through you guys that come here and tell your stories.
Putting in my 2 cents for someone looking at heavy haul. Patience, follow through, research and a 6th sence of anticipation of other drivers around you. Drive your truck at your comfort level. When in doubt, check it out. And never 2nd guess yourself, either know what you are doing or dont do it. Thats all.
