    Hey guys, I'm new here. I'm 19 and I'm French, I won to the DV Lottery ( so I'll immigrate on Sept. 2018 ). As my father and my uncle ( he works since 2001 in Chicago ), I'd like to become Truck Driver because US trucks are my passion and work conditions are very good ( salary & benefits ). I'll maybe come during Apr. 2018 to prepare my project : visiting CDL schools and trucking companies. Useful to know : I've got my High School Diploma on 2016.

    I know that before 21, I'm allowed to get CDL ligense and to drive inside of the state ( intrastate ). So I have a lot of questions you can easily answer :

    - Are there companies who hire under 21 drivers to make intrastate job ??
    - Do those companies pay the training ?? Are they send students to other schools with(out) reimbursement ??
    - Which is the best state to make Intrastate ??
    - Do tou have references of companies and schools to give me ??

    Thx

    @Chinatown

    The above guy will probably be able to help you. Where are you going to be living here in the states? This is important information as it will determine what companies may be available to you.

    Dan.S and Chinatown Thank this.

    AFAIK, most of the industry will not hire you if under 21yrs old.

    Another thing to consider is: As a new immigrant, you will need to hold a REGULAR driver license for at least 1 yr, before the state that you choose to reside in, can grant you a CDL.

    Long story short, it might be a while before you are granted a CDL --- but schools wont tell you that directly. They'll take your money first, and you will find out the hard way, after that.

    In the mean time feel free to hang out here and learn what companies to stay away from! Call it research.

    A 19 year old wanting to be a truck driver has to be one of the most ill-conceived notions.

    Do yourself a favor and get a real education, and a good paying job.
    Get into a position where you can meet some nice women to start a family.
    Trucking won't get that for you.
    You will be isolated for the most part, and by yourself.

    There are a very few that could go into trucking at your age and actually make it work. But that is something like 2 percent.
