I've been driving for 3 years, so I'm not new, but I know I'm no seasoned vet.
My question for those who ARE seasoned vets is this: I know what starter companies are, but what's next, and how do you find those outfits? What makes them stand apart from 'bottom feeding mega carriers'? Any feedback from the old pros is greatly appreciated! Thanks

OK, that's easy question and much depends on where you live and if you have endorsements.
Are you still with a starter company?

I'm not with a mega carrier. A smaller intermodal outfit in Denver, but I'm moving to Tulsa and trying to find something decent. Any suggestions? From what I've read in these threads, you're the man with the plan! Help a brother out!

When I go to an interview I have a note book I take with me filled with questions for my prospective employer. Pay rate, Benifits, accessory pay, holiday pay, hourly rate for misc duties, etc.... I want details such as premiums for insurance and what are the deductibles. I have a guy I know dumb as ####. He’s had 10 trucking jobs in last 5 years. Every time he goes somewhere new I ask about his pay and Benifits. He always answers with I think. Then He’s surprised when things don’t pan out.

Thanks for the advice and pointers, guys.
To answer Chinatown, I'm looking for regional or OTR, out 2, maybe 3 weeks at a time. Preferably dry van, though I could bite the bullet and run reefer (not sure I could sleep with the reefer running...) Since I'm based in Tulsa, I'd prefer southeastern territory.
I have tanker as an endorsement, but will try to shoot for the HAZ eventually. Thanks again for your help!
