Where is your location; state & nearest city/town? Do you have endorsements? Are you 21 or 22 or 23 or older?
What type(s) of freight interest you? How much hometime do you need? Daily? Weekly? Less than that? What traffic citations do you have in the last 5 years (and when) -- if any? What criminal convictions do you have in the last 10 years? -- L
Dry van is known for low pay. Try for refrigerated OTR so you can live in the truck if you desire, but don't have to if you prefer more hometime. Also can make much more pay with refrigerated trucking and bank it.
+1 for going reefer if you want the true OTR adventure. You'll hear all the horror stories, but you'll see all 48 states a whole lot quicker if you go refrigerated.
That's almost like asking, "How much does a new car cost?" The answers are all over the place. There's just too many variables to consider......to give a "one size fits all" answer -- it depends on: where you live (some good carriers may not hire in your residence area) what freight types interest you the most -- some people are really drawn to the challenges of flatbed; others (no names needed, all too obvious here) think that reefer is God's gift to planet earth above all else; others think that tanker is where it's at -- but it's really up to you at the end of the day how old you are (some carriers will take you at age 21; others as much as 25) your criminal and driving history (if any) -- if you have speeding tickets &/or otherwise suck behind the wheel now -- that sharply reduces your CDL carrier possibilities later whether you are willing/able to stay out for extended periods of time (or not) all driving jobs require a certain level of physical condition; some require you to be in better physical shape, than others and still other conditions that I'm probably omitting Regardless of the above -- you need to be able to pass a DOT physical exam (they're pretty basic), and also a drug screening -- some are via a urine specimen, some involve a hair follicle test (and some require both). IF YOU DO DRUGS -- YOU DON'T DRIVE!!! PERIOD. -- L
