I reside in tx. I once had hazmat. Re- obtained my cdl with tanker been back for almost 2 yrs. I took and passed my hazmat knowledge test. I got my background done. I don't have to take the course due to previous hazmat. While I've been out for 4 was, my new license came in and is waiting for me. I wish I could look at it but my wife just won't send a pic. So what is all this talk about twic? Is that separate from what's on the license? I'm looking to broaden my opportunities and maybe find something more local. Thanks.
TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) Is required to get into ports and many chemical companies and refineries. You have to do the same fingerprinting/background check as Hazmat and some states lets you do both at the same time. Otherwise, you get to pay twice for the same check. Most chemical tank companies require TWIC but many of them will pay for it for you.
If you apply for both you get a discount due to the background check being done already. Having TWIC like already mentioned, just makes you more valuable asset. You basically can enter any government bases, ports, etc.. It’s basically more convenient to have.
It’ll be separate from your actual drivers license. I let mine go because I never needed it for what I do. You can use it also at airports which I did all the time. I only did it because it would aggravate some at the airports who didn’t know about it..I’m a real dink sometimes
Some fuel hauling carriers will want you to have a TWIC, as well. Fuel delivery duty to port areas will often require it. In my case -- I was hired (in part) for a fuel gig -- due to the fact that I already had a TWIC. -- L
You can still go and apply for the TWIC and still get the discount. That’s because you already did the background check.
Yes, it would be great to do one background check for all credentials. But the government couldn't screw you over 4 times that way.
