I-16 is SHUT DOWN The interstate is closed from Exit 71 to Exit 78 in both directions. A large dump trailer hit the GA 86 bridge and shifted it 6 feet. This is west of US 221/GA 56 Exit. No timeframe for closure removal. Engineers with contractors and GDOT evaluating the situation. Signed detour currently being installed… Westbound Detour: Take Exit 78- Turn Right onto Highway 221 North, Left onto US 80 West, go through town of Adrian, Left onto State Route 15, Re-Enter I-16 at Exit 71 Eastbound Detour: Take Exit 71 – Turn Right onto Highway 15, through Soperton, Left onto State Route 46, Left onto State Route 56, Re-Enter I-16 at Exit 78 Given traffic volumes, we also encourage folks to find a totally alternate route beyond this official detour.
Nothing wrong with it, just get a forklift under it and push it back. It isn’t as bad as some of the bridges in Michigan that was supposed to be rebuilt but they took the money for road modification to put in bike lanes.
I don't know how the driver could not know his dump bed was in the raised position? Extra wind resistance, and the fact a look in your rear view mirrors should give you a clue. This sure does seem to be happening an awful lot.
I don’t think they are bolted down. Bridges have bearing plates on the ends that they move on. That’s why when you are sitting on a bridge waiting for traffic you can feel it flex up and down. That’s the bridge moving on the bearing plates. The plates actually wear out with the movement and need to be replaced with regular maintenance.
