hi all i'm looking at mavrick i've had a cdl for over 19 years most of those years were being a tow truck driver and now my last boss has scr*wed me he couldn't pay his drivers so we quit. my question's are 1. orientation what kind of food do they serve 2. is orientation monday through friday or do we also learn on the weekend's 3. i have a issue with being in a bus was almost killed by bus driver falling asleep. might they reimburse all or part of my out of pocket transport cost 4. what is there to do when not learning ie gym, pool or off property entertainment and is there a curfew thanks to all. this thread has givin me alot of info
1. You're served lunch during the first week of orientation, the other meals are your responsibility. The lunches are usually sandwiches with chips, and I think they did pizza once. You will be given a $50 cash advance on the first day to help cover costs until your first check comes. Orientation and flatbed training pays $550 per week. 2. It's all 7 days of the week. With you coming in as experienced, you will only have a few days of orientation, and then if you go flatbed or glass you'll want to do the barn training which is 7 days. If you're going TCD, you'll have a 1 day class on the reefer unit and then off you go. 3. They will reimburse you up to the cost of whatever your bus ticket would have been. 4. There is no curfew. There is a gym up by the drivers lounge. There are shuttle vans that are provided that allow the students to go to Walmart or wherever else they need to. After you receive your official job offer on Wednesday, you'll be eligible to check out a company car to go places. While you're free to do what you want with your time, I would highly recommend staying away from anywhere that would not be considered as a family environment. I did personally see several guys fired for taking the company van to Hooters one evening. And you must stay away from alcohol. Restaurants, movie theaters, the mall, and stuff like that is fine, although orientation days are so long you'll likely be too worn out to do anything else LOL. If you have any other questions, feel free!
1. As far as food for orientation, they may serve anything from sub sandwiches to something from a local deli. The last company I worked for we went to Golden Corral for lunch everyday. 2. Orientation is usually 3 days in most cases.(Mon-Wed) First day is usually drug test and going over company policies. Second day road test, paperwork, and talking to various people in the company. Third day truck assignment and meeting dispatcher and getting first load and getting everything setup( fuel cards, driver ID, etc) 3. As far as your own way to orientation, most companies will reimburse the equivalent cost of a bus ticket. 4. As far as what to do after Orientation class, most drivers will get together with someone in Orientation and go to mall, bar, or movie theatre. As far as drinking some companies will send you home if you get caught drinking during Orientation. There usually isn t any curfew. As long as you get a good night sleep and catch the shuttle bus on time and make it to class before it starts you re good to go
captanX3 thank you also i have 1 not at fault accident in the last 10 years i was parked in the truck in front of the shop and this dude fell asleep and head on'ed my truck. do you think the'll hold it agenst me
Just always always always display 100% good citizen responsibility while at orientation. Read JimTheHut's thread http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr.../101564-heading-for-little-rock-maverick.html and Razororange's thread http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/maverick/202583-my-maverick-experience.html for a really good description of orientation at NLR.
If you're not at fault it's not an issue. I've been hit twice out here while asleep, never had it held against me while I've worked here. EDIT: I should clarify that I was parked in a truck stop and asleep, not driving while sleeping LOL.
Yeah, they're large rooms with two queen beds and a huge shower. The hotel is at the terminal, it's owned by Maverick. If you stay for barn training, you'll be moved down the street to the Galloway Hotel.
