I don't know about Columbia, but in Des Moines you are given the packet at check in and are expected to have it filled out before class starts monday at 6am.
Just checked in a couple hours ago at Columbia, no packet given from the hotel, just the room and advice to be early for pickup Monday morning.
My DH is in Des Moines for orientation. They did not give him a packet to fill out either. The paper he did receive from the clerk said it was already in the system. Just thought y'all might like to know.
maybe this is a sign they are finally on the new computer system?? I heard they were getting away from some of the "paper and pencil" stuff and going electronic
Reading this forum, I thought that the road test was after time with the trainer. Are there two road tests? One before, one after? DH called on his lunch break and said his road test was today.
A company will road test you during orientation to make sure that you can handle the vehicle, and then you will have another road test after training before they put you in your own truck that is more involved.
Yes, all computerized now (Coulumbia anyway), still alot of forms but all on the computer. Still some forms to fill out by hand but 95% on PC. First day, drug screen, physical and 3 tests on PC, General knowledge, Math and DOT besides all the informational forms as previously mentioned. Long day but a good instructor and keeping busy made the day go by.
Inexperienced drivers will be given a graded road test at the completion of the time with a trainer before being assigned their own truck. During the orientation they will be sent out on the local roads with a teacher to learn about some of the doodads and gadgets on the truck, but it isn't really a test. Experienced drivers are given a road test during orientation to determine if they need to spend any time with a trainer. Of course perhaps they have changed that as well lately, there seem to be changes all the time.
He finished his training yesterday and is now at home. From what we have seen so far, they seem to treat their drivers more than fair. That was the only road test he will have. That's what he was told anyhow. I guess we'll see how it works out. I think that he's really going to like TMC.
