So I have 2 years and some change, and roughly 80k+ miles of oilfield driving experience in PA, OH, WV, and NY. Would you guys classify that as OTR experience or no? Or to word it different, when filling out an application and it asks for OTR experience would you put down 2 years experience or none? It was all Tractor/Trailer driving, driving pneumatic bulk trailers and oilfield specific equipment. Oh and I put this question here since I really didn't know where else to post it and since this are gets a good amount of traffic.
sure id put down 2 years experience. you have experience, its up to the company how they will view it. since the average otr driver drives 125k miles per year, if i were looking at your experience, and i were responsible for deciding whether or not to hire you, id give you credit for experience. but it would be somewhere around ONE year in my eyes. you drove less than 1 years' worth of miles, and yet spent 2 years+ behind the wheel. in my eyes, that gives you the equivalent of around 1 year experience, give or take. AND you have an added bonus to offer...you stayed with the company for 2 years, higher than the industry average. but its certainly not me you have to impress lol. im just a driver.
Depends on the company you apply with, but usually would not count. I, personally, would put down 2 years OTR, but that's me. Sometimes they ask which or how many states you drove in so put that down correctly. If you have tanker endorsements, apply with tanker companies for the best pay. Like Chinatown said, it will depend on the company but most will only count your experience as over the road only if you truly were driving over the road. SOME companies will count local experience as half a point of over the road experience but they are few and far between. In other words if you have two years over the road and two years local then you will have a total of three years over the road. They usually do this to figure out your pay scale or true level of driving experience. Most other companies use your over the road experience for insurance purposes so it must truly be OVER THE ROAD experience.

Actually running flatbed has caught my interest recently, I have an uncle that runs them up in Michigan and he loves it. Right now I am looking to probably stay regional if I can just for a little bit more hometime.
Yeah, we don't really have regional. Your area is permitted to go home every 2 weeks tho, but I'm sure that's not enough for you Keep us in mind tho
