you can do it online at the FMCSA website http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/registration-licensing/online-registration/onlineregdescription.htm
Thanks a lot. I have been looking at a couple websites but just hard to know who to trust with something like this. Agian, thanks Gary
your welcome Gary... Their is no reason to have someone else do it for a few hundred bucks plus the cost of the authority when you can do it yourself plus I dont trust anyone else doing my paperwork. Andrew
You should read this thread. It will give you the info you need. http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...-operator/13608-so-you-want-own-your-own.html There are several other threads that have personal knowledge of the steps to take. GL
This only gets you a DOT number. You must still apply to the STB for your own authority. That usually takes a lawyer because of the technical stuff. There's a big difference between a DOT number and operating authority.
We did not use a lawyer, we used a company that does this as their specialty. They only charged us about $300 for the service and took care of all the red tape.
http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/registration-licensing/online-registration/onlineregdescription.htm Thats not true you use this website to get both your USDOT and your Operating Authority (MC Number). Under "Help me Register" it shows that.... Or if your in CA and maybe some other states you need to get your Motor Carrier Permit for that state and a Motor Carrier Profile number (I.e CA #). Andrew
I cannot put their name out there, forum rules. But just suffice it to say, the $300 was worth every penny to me. And I still call them and ask questions, free of charge.
