Applied for a P&D position thinking that they would never even glance at my application. But they called today wanting to know if I was still interested. Not sure if I should make the jump or not. Can anyone fill me in on p&d or odfl in general? Thanks!

ODFL, Old Domion freight lines ? Pretty good co. P and D (pick up, delivery ) Or LTL (less than load) as I refer to it. Local driving home nightly, delivering ( and pick ing up) general freight, can be anything from pipe to drums to pallets to boxes to carpet to ping pong balls. Deliveries can be to a dock to an office bldg on the 10th floor. Always loved those 20 cs of copy paper to an office where the pretty recepitionest said down the hall into the closet please. And your truck is double parked out front. Most LTL freight comes in to your dock area on trailers that need to be un-loaded and sorted then reloaded to make a run. Weekends off.

    ODFL is a solid company.
    No smokers.
P&D is busy work, but it's not awful.
Holler at @MACK E-6 , he'll fill in the details.

It's a good gig. Jump on it.

Go for it, especially if you aren’t doing anything else right now.

Been hauling grain and fertilizer for the elevator but that’s over with soon, was going back to road work (construction) , actually just accepted their offer to start next week. So I’m torn.

This is what I wanted to know. Not too keen on dealing with office people. Guess I won't be doing local P&D.

The negatives are, you’ll be bumping docks all day
Dealing with more dumb drivers when you have to block all lanes in order to back up into a spot off the main road.

Constantly being messaged by dispatch and seeing if you’re gonna be able to make certain drop offs or pickups.

Dealing with customers and their damaged freight.

Residential customers wanting help to drag their heavy item into their house or else. Lol

Arriving to a pick up just to find out you have to load all boxes by hand because they don’t provide pallets.

Getting to a delivery and you don’t have a lift gate when it was supposed to be a lift gate delivery so they send it back and they put it back on you the next day with the same non lift gate trailer lmao

Some people can deal with the constant stress and some can’t. Reason why a lot of drivers stick to the Linehaul side of P&D.

Fortunately in my world these scenarios are the exception rather than the rule.
