315 thanks, sorry just noticd the reply. will have it checked out. and it is a 2013 not a 14. fat fingerd it on mobile
If it's a TK unit like you say it probably has an Espar (? Spelling) bunk heater in it. Those things put out great heat but are a bit maintenance intensive. Probably just needs the heater rebuilt. That's about $300 dollar's at TK. If you do get it rebuilt and it smokes like crazy when you fire it up THEY DIDN'T REBUILD IT RIGHT! I just had mine done and made the local TK shop redo it cause of that. Good luck!
ah cool diidnt know that. once i have them redo it, is there anyway i can do any of the maint on it? First tiem driving a Pete esp with an APU
I've never tried to rebuild the heater, but I've seen the rebuild kit ans it looks pretty straight forward. A little glow plug looking thing, a mesh screen and a few other doo dads. I wouldn't know why not. You should only have to rebuild it once every couple years. When you get it working be sure at least once a month, every month (summer included) you turn the heater on and run it as hot as you can for 15-20 minutes. Mine has a digital thermostat so I run it up to 90. That will clean the screen and glow plug out and keep it working a bit longer, or so goes the theory
ah ok i will do that, mine has the digitl display and it goes to 90 as well, i will have that done, thanks for the heads up
As far as the maintenance on the APU itself, you should be able too. Oil filter, air filter, spin on fuel filter and, depending on the year model of Tri-Pak, either an inline fuel filter or a trap style fuel filter. Take the bottom of the case off and go to town. TK recommends servicing the APU every 1000 hours.
