The fuel mileage depends on a lot of factors. Lets start with what kind of trailer your pulling, weight, where ya gonna run mostly, size of motor (maker and hp/tq), transmission, rear gears, tire size, what mph you like to run at, if theres any air deflector on the truck, and flat top sleeper or ultra-sleeper just to name a few.

Ya can't just say that a 379 Pete will get 5mpg cause there are way to manyy things to consider.

With a loaded reefer or drybox near gross - 5.5 to 6

    Light, or with a flat - 6 to 6.5

That's almost identical to mine. I get between 5.7 and 6.2. I pull a dry van. Loads weight between 15,000 to 30,000.

Personally, I would go with a 475-500 HP truck. 450 is decent for a flatlander, but if youre planning to run 48, the extra power will save you fuel and perform better. Cant see paying for a truck that will lose to a Swift truck in a pulling contest.

From my own humble experience..... 525 or better HP; and an 18 speed for those who prefer not to watch the grass grow on the 70 climbing up through Vail...

No argument from me. He can get by with a 13 as long as its rated for 1800 ft lbs.
