I've never hauled live chickens but I've hauled live turkeys. I was young and dumb and out of work and I had a family to feed. I spent the month before Thanksgiving herding and loading and hauling what turned out to be the dumbest, most belligerant and foul creatures that God ever made.
The drivers helped load and if you've ever tried to stuff a turkey into a cage above the level of your head you'll you'll learn a new meaning to "crappy job". They'd also vomit all over you. And scratch you. And peck you.
At the end of the haul they offered us a free turkey. I went to Safeway and bought a ham instead.

I know someone who works at Sanderson Farms, though he is a feed driver. They start at $25 hr and he easily gets over 10 hrs overtime.

I’m earning $18.50 hourly at my current job, so this would be a considerable step up in pay.

Edit: This is at S Farms. I’m not sure what Pilgrims starts out at.
