Checked on my plates today (20 western states $2200) (48 states $2000) the (five states i ran in last year $2800) WTF my boss said keep the 20 western states i might save $200 this year on the 48states but that it would cost me much more than the $200 next year ,,, true? what should i do ?
This years tag is based on LAST years mileage. 5 states for $2800 means you ran some high dollar states. Each state has their own rate per mile. Your base state just passes their share on to them.
I guess my ? is will doing the 48 states this year cost me more next year ,,, i figure i will be running the same 5 states this year again but going 48 states this year saves me 200. Will doing the 48 states this year cost me more next year? I dont plan on using the 48 states.
No, they will use the same estimate mileage wise for next year, or if something changes between now 'n then you can drop states you no longer need or want.
So are you saying that the cost for the 48 states wont be any difference in basic cost over this year and next year unless they individualy increase on there own anyway? Im just trying to figure what the down side is to doing 20 western states vs. the 48 states and saving $200.00 doing the 48 states,,,, hell i mean why not do the 48 states and save 200 bucks.
Yeah, I don't understand why it is cheaper to add states. In IL every state you add that you have no previous miles in, they give you an estimated number of miles & charge according to that. I had 48 & cut 10 out when I renewed last year(saved maybe $100 by cutting those 10) & will probably cut a couple more out this year. But here you are paying for every additional state added via estimated mileage. The more I think about it, should ask if they offer a volume discount that they just didn't tell me about.
Well i dont understand it either but my boss thinks that by going 48 states and saving 200.00 this year ,some how i ll pay out the nose for it next year!
Mine was $1700 some odd dollars. All States including Canada were estimated as I just got my Authority on 9-11-09. I don't plan on going to Canada nor California and maybe a handful of other States, so next year will be different for sure.
