Hello everyone, I would like to know if im a student driver, inexperience or a experience driver. I received my CDL through Stevens Transport, i finished all my of my training with my trainer, finished Student&Student training. When it was time for me to go as a Solo driver i left and went back home to do local driving. Once at home i got a job driving a flatbed for this company doing local drop-offs for 5 months, after that i worked as a dump trucker driver for about 2months. Please can someone help me? Thanks alot!!!
Hello I will try to help a bit. You are a Newbie. 0-1 year of experience. Experienced truck drivers have at a minimum of two (2) years of truck driving experience. IMHO Be careful not to job hop too much. It can hinder your job potential down the road. Hold on to a position long enough to get that experience and the respect that comes with it. Best!
The experience you have, will not translate to OTR experience in the future. Should you decide to return to OTR. Only the time driven after you went solo, will count. In your case...you have none. You will be able to get jobs locally and regionally. But OTR companies will place a variety of restrictions and bumps in your way, for hiring purposes. They may require you to second seat for a few weeks. Or enter their training program....again.
You know, I get the feeling that something is amiss. You have someone go to trucking school (translation= big hole in pocket), do the big trucking company orientation (translation= no income for 3 weeks), ride with a trainer for 6 weeks (translation= $300 a week, and ramen noodles at the truckstop if your trainer doesnt buy you dinner at Wendy's), and before he gets to rookie pay ($600 a week), he quits and goes home (translation= huge hole in pocket) He then takes a local job pulling a flat (translation= bottom of the line job for a CDL holder) and then goes to a tandem dump truck gig (the minimum wage job of all CDL jobs. Now he asks whether or not he's an experienced driver(translation= someone is filling out a job ap, and will have to stretch the truth to get this job MEANING he's not going to list the flatbed and the tandem dumptruck gigs as they probably wont give him stellar reviews) Solution: Worscheshire sauce and a pinch of salt. Gives ramen noodles that much needed flavor.
Sound like a rookie, newbie, inexperienced, green horn, wet behind the ears, etc. Everything but an experienced driver. You are an experienced application filler outer.
