Quality Carriers

Looking to leave current job to join Quality Carriers, have been looking for info on them, but hitting a wall. If ANYBODY can fill me in on what kind of comapny they are to work for, I would appreciate it.

What terminal are you looking to run out of? I'm guessing cincina since your by Dayton. All I can tell you about that affiliate is they do food grade and non-hazmat stuff. Lots of soap for Dial Corp too

 

Looking at running out of Fairfield Ohio, the manager makes it sound too good to be true and just wondering. drove for Roehl for 2 years and just looking to get a little more home time. Thank you for the replies.

 

Tampa terminal told me I would have to shave my beard off since they run a lot of Haz loads, said I must be able to wear an oxygen tank with full face coverage, I told him that as a firefighter I had a beard and it never presented a problem with a SCOT pack but.... their company policy, my butt walking out the door!!!

Other then that I have heard and read good and bad, I guess it boils down to what your needs are as opposed to the next guys, mine were to keep my beard of 36 years!

I understand the policy, just didn't like all the "terms" they had at the Tampa location. It's their policy and have every right to it! Mine was to keep my beard instead, besides, they were pushing some fleece deal for some 5 year old century's for more money in payments then the truck was worth 3 years ago!!

No biggie....

 

It's not just QC policy . Many of their customers have posters in the guard shack showing what facial hair is allowed and what isn't . They are just complying with OSHA regulations .
"The use of a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), such as the Scott Air Pac, is not acceptable for bearded employees under emergency conditions. Since the SCBA is used in unknown concentrations for unspecified lengths of time, maximum protection must be achieved when the SCBAs are worn. The beard growth can significantly reduce the service life of the air cylinder on the SCBA which could restrict the performance in the emergency operation. The SCBA wearer can "overbreathe" when moderately heavy to heavy workloads are performed. If there is a leak caused by the beard, the air contaminant could be pulled inside the facepiece. Furthermore, the beard can interfere with the sealing of the exhalation valve and shortening the service life of the air supply. For emergency use, there is an escape hood with a continuous flow of air and a fifteen-minute service life which usually can be worn by bearded employees. Respirators of this type that have been approved by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health are available on the market"

I bet you're a volunteer fireman , aren't you ?

 

I was but not anymore, we have paid fireman where I live now.

Like I said, it's their right to require it and mine to just walk away. I understand the reasons, never disputed them, I am not willing to shave my beard for a job, at least not when I have other offers.... maybe one day if I'm starving, homeless and broke but....Since that term seemed to push the fleece deal I wouldn't go there anyway.
