It was good last year and the year prior. Give it a year. I've heard from many folks that been in this business for many years, to ride the roller coaster. 3 year cycles I've been told. Not sure about the accuracy as I am just a driver.
I’ve only been doing this since 2008 but I’ve found about 2 yrs bad followed by 1.5 yrs good. Where people mess up is when it’s good they get some money built up then take time off. When things go bad they dont have the proper funds built up. Also, always keep investing in your equipment whether it’s good or bad times.
Trucking is as trucking does, or some other FG cliche. Trucking is great until some JO comes in and cuts the rate. That's all I have to say about that.
We're down about 5% on our gross for the first quarter of '19 as compared to the first quarter of '18. The first quarter is normally our slowest time of the year so a small decrease isn't unusual or anything to be alarmed about.
Tonnage is down, The worst was 2005-2011, 6 consecutive yrs. of dropping tonnage, I don’t think that record will be broken for a long time. I don’t know why, it’s not busier. All economic numbers look great. I suspect less warehousing due to less imports. One good thing NAFTA did was boost Trucking due to increased Trade.Thats fine by Me. I’d rather have more Jobs here, and I won’t mind paying higher fuel prices, as much, when it happens and it will. At least people in Our Country are benefiting from the production of oil. (Jobs). Overall our industry is being streamlined.More Companies will go under, simply because there’s a lot of better ways to make money than running or investing in a Trucking Co.
