OK, maybe I am reading too much into this but, if radar detectors are illegal for commercial drivers, then why are they in the display case right next to the CBs in the truckers area of the local truck stop? Are there truckers that use them anyway? Is there anyway that a cop can tell that you have one without seeing it? Just curious.:biggrin_25511:

There are radar detector detectors and there are detectors that may not be detectable. Maybe the ones for sale are for when the drivers get home:yes2557:

Radar detectors are there for the same reason some truckstops sell booze ... revenue for the truckstop, and there are truckers that have both in their trucks. There are radar detector detectors. Also, if a cop points his laser or hits the instant-on radar and you suddenly hit the brakes he's going to suspect you have a detector.

I don't currently have a detector but I've owned them in the past, although I've never used one in a commercial vehicle. What I get a laugh out of is people that are driving 2 mph over the limit and hit their brakes when their detector picks up a signal from the alarm at the Kwik-I-Mart up the block.

Some can be detected by a radar detector detector, some are totally passive, and cant be, but if you hit the brakes because you get a strong hit from a radar or laser speed gun, the cop will probably be suspicious that you have one. So far, in most places, its not illegal to sel something, even though it may be illegal to use i.

Someone might give specifics on what is detectable and what isn't, Ive never had one, so I really don't know.

Truck stops, travel centers, whatever you want to call them, are in business to MAKE MONEY.
Even if that means offering a product that is illegal in a commercial vehcile.
In their defense, it is not their duty to police who buys what. A lot of non-truckers also frequent these businesses.
Just because they have it on sale, doesn't mean you have to buy it.

Truckers are not the only people to use the rest area, travel center, truck stop.... 4 wheelers also may stop for fuel for their vehicles and maybe food as well. radar detectors are legal for use in cars, in most states.
