Seconding the CRE thing. Even though Canuck is right about about the physical unit, England had something weird going on. In my time there, more than once, I had a dispatcher call and say, "Where the hell are you?" I'd tell them, and they'd ask me to cycle the ignition into the on position.

I'm not at all sure, but it might be that automatic location "pinging" is something you have to pay for, and England might only ping location when the truck is on.

Whatever the case, and despite the "always on" status of each individual QComm dome, CRE has some trouble tracking their trucks when they're off.

....Just remembered something else, there's the old trick of taping a soda can to the satellite dome and scattering the signal...so the abandoners might be doing some of that, too.

One clip with a set of wire cutters is all it takes to "blind" a QC. Or, just park it under a bridge.

Regarding that Werner. He's not only a poor example of inexperienced drivers and Werner, but a broader group of people who are just plain inconsiderate. There was a tanker friver at that Hook the other morning with a name on the door....C....something. parked right smack in the middle of the drivewayl midway between the fuel island and the exit, with his (or her) curtains drawn. Everybody had to weave this way and that to get out. Several drivers blasted their air horns at the sleeper, but no response from inside. I just got around it and left. I have an embarassingly pathetic air horn.

IT isn't the greatest technology in the world....
I once had USA call me and ask how far out I was (as I was sitting in the dock)
OHH they replied, we show you still 110 miles away AND REQUESTED CONFIRMATION OF MY LOCATION!

It is also one possible explanation for why the driver has not been able to find a job since.

    Wargames Thanks this.

Yeah, the same thing has happened to me, except I was still rolling. Whoever was dispatching that weekend called freaking out, saying that she showed me as 350 miles away (I was only 100 miles and had 3 hrs. to make destination.)

That park job looks like the driver was either tired to the point of hallucinations or he was under the influence... seriously. How the hell does someone knowingly park like that? I think there is more to the story than simply a rediculous parking job.

I had a nice delivery in GA I think when I was with Werner and since they didn't have any available empties I parked in their bobtail area which was this little dirt alcove surrounded by trees. I slept very well knowing my QC didn't have a signal.

I had a message from Link asking me my eta to my delivery. I told them "right now" since I had just pulled up to the guard shack.
