Just checking things out now, trying to get grant with the EDD department for free schooling on truck driving. Lost my last, now getting them for wrongfull termination. Was hoping to get some ideas on the best companys to work for. I'd like to come home on weekends here in Chico, California. I am looking for LTL, good CPM, an no tuching the freight, just drop and hook, an MUST be hauling doubles! Hopefully I can get in with someone right out of the training the state will pay for. Going to TDA out of Yuba City, California. Thanks for your time, G.B.!

You've got to be kidding . You'd be lucky to get ANY job and no chance of getting half what you're looking for . Thousands of experienced LTL drivers have lost their jobs in the past few months . I posted a link not long ago to an article stating LTL carriers still have too many trucks on the road and there will be more fleet reductions and more job losses .
States shouldn't waste taxpayers' money sending people to CDL schools when there is a growing oversupply of drivers,

Ah,...OK. I guess I'll just have to grin and bear it to get the 2 years in. I'm looking to work at one place an need at least 2 years running doubles. After talking to my bud from church,...I see that they are not just gonna put me on doubles. An,...I'll need to go through there own training at the Co.'s that will take new grads. Just sick of living pay check to pay check. Where I live,...good luck getting $9.00 an hour! I don't have much bills, less that a thousand a month, so when I see that I could make 75-K a year in about 5 years,...It is something to consider. I'm 37,...An SSI is NOT something to count on! $840- on SSI is a JOKE!:biggrin_2551:

There are many drivers out there with over 5 years experience not making half that $75 K

I'm still going to check it all out. I see your from KY, maybe things are a little diff. out here. My 2 friends out here are making 75-K on avrage, they have been drivers for about 5 years. An, once this economy thing gets better, there is going to be more demand for truckers. Money will be flowing into this economy and people will be buying homes. Once people start buying homes again we all will be doing good. Thank you for your comments. It helps allot. G.B., Scott in Cali.

Just curious if you are on unemployment because your company closed down , how do they verify that ? Through your taxes maybe ?

First hand knowledge here. THEY DO CHECK REFFERENCES!

Gads the gal in Burns Harbor made a mess of things when she called mine. One of my referrences was my wifes boss. Next thing I knew this gal had misconstrued the facts and said that I had not reported working at a radio station (never have). This same gal was ready to toss me out of class because she got the facts wrong. I had to call Salt Lake to explain what had happened whil this gal was ready to toss me out because of her bad research.

But yes, they do look! So if you modify your refferences and find out otherwise and they can prove it, your toast!
