I'd like to replace the OEM muffler in my W900 but do NOT want to even chat with KW about this. I'm sure its up there with their $475 seatbelts and $339 sleeper alarm clock. Anyone have any aftermarket suggestion that essentially mounts into the OEM spot and sounds about the same w/o the famous "BendOver" pricing? My local KW started this $2 Tuesday and $5 Friday deals to show the area the "nicer, kindler, cost effective Kenworth". I gave the saleswoman the big eye when I heard this. I told her you can't use any of those words in the same sentence as Kenworth. ($2250 for an OEM radiator....who are they kidding???)
yeah. quit repeating the question. no, there is no aftermarket to install. and the going rate is $350. so far i've only come up with shuttleworth $310 + shipping and kenworth $348. and detroit radiator sells a replacement for $2500. actually, pittsburgh power sells a u shaped. its $425. if you want the longy it's $550. i'm thinking of a u shaped pipe and installing 2 down below AFTER the u shape. one on each side.
you might check with Mr. Hanney I know he knows the website for donaldson and he can get you the part number if they got it. I don't know why they wouldn't have one for a W-900 they have them for a T-600Kw and I bought one. It is a highflow muffler but it is still oem looking on the outside and bolts right up where the factory one goes. You should asked him before you buy somthing else they were bareley over a hundred dollars and they are a good looking heavy made muffler too.
on the muffler i put a regular muffler on the same spot as the old one. along with a 180 deg bend pipe and 5ft of exhaust pipe and a few band clamps and a few banged up fingers and choice words and lots and lots of beer $260 later and a sunday i'll never get back i was done. the muffler i got from kw in youngstown for $106 donaldson cant remember the number. but its a straight through design.
He doesn't seem to answer PMs anymore. I guess too many people were asking for advice for 'free' and I understand that... I have been looking at Donaldson Silent Partner or Walker Noisebreaker mufflers but I really don't feel like prefab-ing something. A drop in for me will be perfect. The problem with many of the higher flow mufflers is higher noise. My truck is plenty loud as it is and a .5mpg increase isn't worth the elevated noise.
I got the OEM muffler from my local KW. $300 I got them down to. That was good enough, so we installed it. It is a Donaldson muffler actually....The original one on this truck had NO markings or part numbers stamped it it at all - but the insides look identical to the new one.
well thats cool than good deal. yeah I know the high flows are louder and somtimes that can be a problem too.
