How long does a typical survey take? I’ve ran tall but states I’ve ran tall in have never/don’t require a Route Survey. Does the process go like this.... Call escorts who do route surveys Get survey Then apply for permits? I may have messed up turning down a 14’9 tall $6k load my cut, ( loaded height) from central NY to home( Charlotte) because I didn’t wanna wait on route survey... Was afraid I’d be waiting days.
Sometimes we just call Pilot Car agencies in the area that keep route surveys on hand ! Or if they know the route real well they’ll just sign off on it .
Yea that’s my thought on some of them. Like just running on I81 in PA. A pilot car has ran that route and if they have the credentials can or has already surveyed that route plenty. Just would have to do the local street to get to interstate.... I know they survey for height and sharp turns, railroad, etc....
Same as Deere Hunter Call pilot companies that do route survey, some provide paperwork in minutes to a couple hours. I had one required, I think it cost $200 extra, with a 50% discount if I used them to escort the load.
Never thought about asking them for a discount good information . I know in Tennessee so many people have hit overpasses and such things that they’re really pushing route surveys lately within the last year anyway ,but usually I just run with the same Pilot Car!!
If you were starting in NY, I know NY state has an online routing map that lets you enter your dimensions, weight, requested travel dates and the map helps you figure out your route. You'd still probably need a route survey, but at least you got something to start with. We've figured out some routes just using google street view maps but that can be risky...I had always planned to take the written test to become a NY certified escort so I could do my own route surveys (needed in NY if over 100 ft overall) but then I retired instead...
Table top surveys can be very costly, they do good on the big roads but 2 lanes need to be driven, the bridges aren’t the problem, need to check traffic lights, wires and trees. Some loads don’t need to be used as tree trimmers.
HI, surveys depend on the dimension of the load you are moving the miles of trip and what states you are going through. most surveys run $2 mile plus rout consulting fee. Google McEntire Heavy Haul Logistics.
Hey mods, can I get the ability to deploy a "thread necromancer" badge or something to folks like this? I promise I'll only use it for good. Or entertainment. Which I guess is also good.
