Hi Would really appreciate some advice on the Samsura camera system. Our company is having this system installed and the drivers have been told its for insurance purposes. Has anyone experience of this system and what we can expect. I am in the UK. Thanks in advance
Don’t believe a thing they tell you. They record 24/7. Video and audio. All footage is stored by samsara, the company decides how sensitive to set the settings. A co worker had a roll over at the end of his shift, they went back and reviewed his entire 12 hour run.
Thanks mate We don't think they are telling us the truth and they certainly haven't mentioned that there is a points system that measures individuals safety and scores them. Been in this job 35 years and feel I am being treated like a child
My company has samsara camera system also. They always say it’s for insurance reasons. My company has videos of doing stuff they should not and run off road. They have videos of cars cutting off the truck and having accident. The car driver said it was our drivers fault. The video proves it was the car drivers fault. If you pickup you cell phone they said it will yell at you to put cell phone down. They also have different settings my comp said. They claim ours is setup to not start recording until truck is going 25MPH or faster. It can detect if driver has seat belt on. My company turned that setting off. We are still required to wear seatbelts, but my company is not wanting to be that picky and call driver about thatt. If driver has hard brake and they look at the video and see driver is not wearing seatbelt they will give us warning about not wearing it. It can also tell if driver comes to full stop at stop signs. My company said they understand why drive doesn’t always do a complete stop but driver need to stop for stop signs. They say Samsara system has AI and it just depends on how much your company want to turn it on. I believe they say it can tell if driver yawning.
Correct. They use AI to interpret events. Not sure what the privacy laws in your country are, but I’m in Canada. They are legally required to have us sign off that they have our permission, have to detail why and how events are held and recorded. Not one company I know does this.
New Jersey is the home of the original cloverleaf ramps that are tiny compared to todays standards except NJ continued making them curve too tight, like I-195. Every time one of our sansara equipped units took any exit ramp in NJ; it was reported. So was ANY stop sign even those tiny cumpled ones on that run over fence post... Ours were not driver facing and we could pull up an entire rip and could peek at the roadway in front of any truck at any time. Your mileage may vary
Yes, they can look at what you’re doing at anytime. Listening to what you are saying at anytime. It’s all bs about they can only see a triggered times. The company’s that say it’s only outward facing but it has a camera on the inside not blocked it a driver facing. Then they say you got caught on a reflection is all bs. They caught you with the cam looking at you. They do have the ones with a plate blocking the inward view that’s a true outward facing driver camera. But if it’s not blocked then it’s a driver facing camera.
Worked with Samsara before but we didn't have the dual cameras in the trucks. They have to tell you if they are dual facing! Just cover it with electrical tape. If they tell you to remove the tape then there you go. Now you know they are watching.
