Apparently there is a frac job nearby,as there has been a non-stop flow of these boys running thru town the last few days. We used to be quite a busy little hub a few years ago and sand trucks were as common as tumbleweeds around here. Slowed down considerably and this is the first time I am seeing a constant flow of the "boxes". Does a box hold the same cubic feet and/or #'s a tradional air can does?
Whose boxes? My heavy truck with a Sandbox chassis/box was 36k. I never had a facility load me more than 78k lbs.
Thats what i typically end up around. But a pneumatic with tractor tares out more like 26k. And those mostly hit the scale at 79.5k loaded. They eat product weight in trade for convenient storage amd lowered detention.
I don't know, just a driver. The company I worked for hauling Sandboxes could not muster even a pay stub, much less a copy of the invoice for my load pay, no longer there to keep asking. The newer companies seem to favor those superlight pneumatic trailers which can tare out with a cab at less than 25, so guessing it matters off-oilfield.
They also make up the difference in shrinkage. At the end of a well frac there would be 2-3 TRAILER LOADS of sand on the ground and on the sand movers, and I unloaded at some fracs where the sand between the movers was literally 5-6 feet deep in places.. Some guy's hose would rupture, he's in the truck dinking around, and sand goes everywhere. The sand coordinator misjudges the room he has left and soon you're blowing sand out of the top of the mover. If you're talking ceramic or coated sand, that's a boatload of money they save, way more than enough to put up with a little difference in haul weight in a pneumatic vs a sand box.
