Any suggestions on an affordable but yet effective scan tool that can reset ABS traction control codes, change idle RPM settings, change, speed settings, and look up check engine codes for Pete with Cummins.
Look into OTR tool. They have list of things it can do on their website. It does have a pricey yearly subscription tho OTR Performance® - The source for advanced diagnostics Another thing you can do is get Chinese nexiq with cracked cumins insite that you can install on a dedicated laptop without internet.
You need two different softwares cummins insite and bendix acom or meritor wabco toolbox. Buying them is super expensive but you can find them for free or cheap if you look at right places. You will of course need a laptop and a nexiq usb link to start with.
At my previous job I was in a loaner truck that had a Bully Dog in it. Now granted this was a CAT but I thought they made them for Cummins. I’m unfamiliar with all their capabilities but I know I could set the speed and idle and other parameters, but I didn’t screw about with it too much to know if it can scan codes. I thought so but I could be mistaken.
Bendix ABS blink codes can be read on the dash (tractor abs light on dash) and reset using a pin out to ground. Find the PDF for your ABS unit online and the schematic and instructions and blink code error messages will be in the document. Free. Insight from Cummins is 770/year for pro. No limits works on any engine with the correct adapters (hardware extra). Chinese versions available with hardware for half price but they fail after a year or so and you need a laptop that never connects to the internet.
Spend the money and get the right equipment, it may be costly but if you want to bypass the shop with the right stuff, it may be worth it.
I wouldn't waste your money on anything except a cracked copy of Insite and a good adapter. Been using Cummins and CAT software for years with a Nexiq interface without issue.
