Anyone have any idea`s about how I might get started. I`ve never driven a dump, many other trucks, yet this might be something I want to buy into. Here in SoCal we move a lot of dirt. I was thinking it might be fun to buy a couple of quads. Can I make it pay? I`ve got drivers, but really I know nothing about this industry.
End dump business is brutal in North Texas right now. Business is there, but with everybody and his little brother in the business, it's rough right now. I'm a company driver...not an O/O, but my earnings are on % of haul...so I see what it's paying...not a lot right now with fuel eating into profit at every turn. Feast or famine is the word of the day. Dirt moving in and of itself is a low paying end of the business with many places you haul the dirt to dump wanting to charge you to dump as well...between $20.00 to $60.00 a load depending on where you go around here. It's hard to get the contractor you're doing work for to pay the dump fee here as well. Aggregate transport is a lot better and a lot easier on equipment with none of the above mentioned problems being present in that end of the business.
