I found the following listed on the Shaffer webpage.

    Shaffer Trucking Minimum Qualifications

    • One year verifiable tractor trailer experience.*
    • Has acceptably passed the required company and D.O.T. physical, the required drug test and the company in-truck driving test and otherwise meets D.O.T. requirements.
    • Has a Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Haz-Mat endorsement issued by the driver’s state of residence.
    • Has a stable verifiable work history.
    • Has attained the minimum age of 22 years.
    • Has an acceptable driving record as reflected by MVR with no major preventable accident in the most recent five (5) years.
    • No DUI or DWI convictions or positive drug screens or events in the past (5) five years.
    • Be able to perform functions set forth in job description.
*Exceptions to the one (1) year OTR requirement may be made on an individual basis if the driver applicant has a stable work history. The Company will also accept qualified student drivers who have successfully completed their schooling at an approved school.

Am I reading this right? Shaffer is willing to make an exception to the 1 year of experience in certain instances.

I have a Class A with almost 1 year CDL experience but I have no tractor trailer experience or truck driving school. I worked for 20 years and got laid off as a production mechanic. The past 9 or 10 months I have been driving a Kenworth T-300 wrecker.

If I read this right, they should at least be willing to talk to me, right?

Call them up! If they hang up on you, then they aren't willing to talk to you.

Before I started driving a wrecker, I emailed a couple of companies asking a question or two. I never heard anything from most of them. One that comes to mind is Raider Express. Apparently they dont need me to work for them!

crete/shaffer has or used to have a 3 week refresher course as well as the full 8 week training. call them. you might have to do the full 8 week as you have no T/T experience.

As far as my situation goes, Shaffer wouldnt talk to me. The website and the recruiter say different things.

I am a recent student graduate of a truck driving school in Houston, and landed my first job with Shaffer. I start next Wednesday. I was hoping someone can tell me where Shaffer/Crete's drop yard is in Houston.

All my recruiter could tell me was it was at some place called Equipment Exchange or Xchange, but did not have an address for them. I tried Googling, but got a bunch of different companies with variations of that name.

I called someone at Wilmer and was told it may be at Stewart & Stevens(on?).

I want to rent a storage unit close to the drop yard to leave my personal vehicle in while I am driving.

Can anyone help a newbie!! Thanks!!
