Starlink

Thought I would add. I just ordered s permanent mount for starlink. The idea is it will just use the mount those round direct tv balls use. Someone is working on a system that will connect his starlink mount to that bracket. If ur interested I'll post his information once it's done so yall can order one also.

 

Does starlink point itself automatically or do you need a satellite finder / meter and have to dial it in like a TV dish?

 

It does it automatically.

Can you use the residential service of Starlink OTR? And what is the main difference between Residential and RV? I am one of those people that it is not available for residential at my home address, but when I put in my work address for "RV" service, I can get it. The equipment price is an awful lot to shell out but I don't want to be without internet as much as I would be OTR with my verizon mobile plan and looking for an alternative and saw this thread. Is Starlink even at the costly price the best alternative for those who just have unlimited mobile plans? Will it fill all those gaps of when I am OTR and out of cell range? Thanks.

 

Yes i use Residential on truck. There is only 1 difference. With Residential you when at ur service address you won't get throttled but u move away from that service address within 10-15 miles you Could be throttled. I Haven't been throttled too bad. Verizon throttles me a lot to the point u cant even load websites.

 

I’m going to take a serious look at this. I currently have three devices with “unlimited data” (iPhone, iPad, and hotspot) and, occasionally, I’m constantly jumping back and forth between them to see which one isn’t being throttled.

I just want one Wi-Fi package like I’d have at home for the majority of my online time. And sometimes I need to be on the same Wi-Fi to do something with my tech and my hotspot is the slowest one I have which sucks.

 

So the RV version of it you don't face getting throttled? If that's the case, then it's a done deal for me once I get to the point of needing it. I definitely don't want to be throttled at all on any platform. I rely heavily on Youtube videos and that's pretty much what I do in my free time is either reading or studying/researching/learning/etc... on youtube stuff. I don't really use the internet for anything else. If youtube was throttled for me, I would hate life trying to watch videos through that nonsense.

 

I don't ever use hotspot for anything because you rip through the data allocated so fast. At least I do in the few times I have tried. I am not on the road currently so I am always on my home wifi, but I have concerns about what happens when I do go OTR because of how much I rely on it. I am really hoping Starlink is the Holy Grail for my needs when I do get OTR. I am not the type of person that downloads things and can watch it later so easily since most of what I do and use it for is Youtube.

 

On RV or traveling with the home version. Your priority is set below the local residents.

So in a way it is throttled. However, the speed is still quite high. Especially for something like YouTube.
