How do you guys check if your trailer brake lights are working ? ...i usually drive in the eve and see reflection on the road in the mirror ... If one of the pigtails got oxidized and stop light stoped working . If i leave at 9am my parking lot whats the procedure to check my trailer brake lights ? ...might sound stupid but it is what it is I was thinking about placing weight on brake pedal , secure trolley bar etc ...but honestly i never did it other than checking my tail in the dark
Set your trolley brake or use a stick to hold the brake pedal down. It's not that difficult. I used to just use my 4 ways because the turn signals and brake lights use the same circuit. But then I had the brake switch on the pedal go bad and didnt catch it. So don't do that.
For most trucks just take a bungee cord and hook to the trailer brake and under the driver seat. It will light the brakes up.
I'm having an intermittent problem with a turn signal. My left signal on occasion blinks fast as if a bulb is burned out. But I can never find it on a pre-trip. The odd thing is that my trailer signal lights blink at normal speed, but my tractor signal lamps blink fast when it happens. Really an odd one. Maybe just a glitch with the signal relay.
1) Ask anyone walking toward your truck to help you out for a second. 2)Turn your cb on and ask the guy behind you. Believe it or not some of us actually turn it on. 3) When your sitting in the truck, just ask somebody. Hey I think I have a light out will you check for me. 4) when standing on the ground ask somebody to push the pedal down for you while you check. 5) Wedge a stick between the pedal and your seat. I usually drive to the nearest inspection station and asks the friendly gentlemen behind the desk to see if my brake lights are working.
I have a piece of steel tube cut to the right length that I can wedge between the seat and the brake pedal. But a broomstick handle or 2x4 or whatever you have will work.
