This may sound really stupid to some but the hunters out there will understand. I am wondering if it is first of all legal to keep my compound hunting bow and a target in the truck and transport over state lines. I understand that different states have different laws on shooting a bow so many feet or yards from buildings, roads and so on and I will have to look into that. But I live for bow hunting and want to keep my skills up while im on the road. Does anyone else have any experience with this?
I'm in the same boat as you, avid bowhunter too, but most shippers and receivers these days have no weapons signs all over, and alot of trucking companies won't allow it either. Not really cool to fling arrows in a truck stop either, if you find a way lemme know.
I would expect to be taken down rather quickly if I took my bow out at a truck stop. And for good reason. But I figured if I had the time to pull off someplace and find an open spot that complied with local laws, how great would that be to be able to practice every couple of days while your on the road. I have friends who drive for entertainment companies and I know they have compounds and crossbows with targets in the trucks all the time. The artist they drive for is a bow hunter as well and they usually set up in the parking lots of the events and shoot every few days. Must be nice right? If I find out any good info I will let you know.
Gonna be my first year missing the opener as well. Hoping for a reset someplace I can get an over the counter out of state tag. But then again if I can't keep my bow with me I will be s.o.l.
I'm not a bowhunter, but I am a firearms enthusiast. Unfortunately, bows suffer from the same thing as guns: fear from an ignorant public. Unless you have the ability and desire to keep up with state and local regulation for every jurisdiction you travel through, you'd best leave it at home. While on the road, you may be able to find archery ranges that will let you rent a bow and a lane in which to practice. I know, it's not the same as your own bow, but it's better than nothing at all.
The desire... yes. Ability to keep up with every jurisdiction in every state.... very doubtful. I was more so hoping for some loophole that I hadn't already discovered. Ha. Wishful thinking. I know a few outfitters in a couple of different places. Guess I will just have to have my bow shipped to them before I arrive for a hunt. Gonna where out my arm practicing and re-sighting everything in before I even get into the woods. But this is the life we chose right? The freedom doesn't come without its downsides I guess.
Now you're thinking! True, but that is one of the reasons I drive local. It isn't illegal to carry in the area where I drive, although it is against company policy.
That's exactly why I'm driving. So I can get out of this state I live in now and get back down to "real America". I lived down by you for a few months, never should have left. Felt like I was home for the first time, cant wait to get back.
