I had a question about hometime I live in chicago and I leave for orientation monday jus completed the academy and they say be prepared to leave with a mentor Thursday. My question is wheb I become solo I have a family member in Houston Texas would they let me take home time out there and how would that work as far as parking the truck and how good is swift at getting you on your requested time off on time
You can take hometime anywhere you like. As far as actually getting hometime you'll need to learn how to work the system so you end up where you want and on time.
That is something that your Mentor can teach you. As far as houston, we have some what of a terminal there so parking your truck is not a problem. It is off I-635 and McCarty
Just put your home time date 1-2 days before you want to be there. And then plan accordingly, like not accepting loads that steer you in the wrong direction. Be advised that 'home time request' is a valid reason to turn down a load. I often get home on the exact date that I request, but sometimes it is a day or two after. If the exact date isn't really important I'll just set it when I'd like to be there. My next home time is very important. It is my daughter's high school graduation. For that one I'll set the date for 5/19, for her 5/21 graduation date.
Yea I guess thats true but I appreciate the information guys its jus that my 1st cousin have stage 4 terminal cancer and the doctor only giving him a 12 months and I promised to come see him wen I got on the road so thank you guys once again
Brother you really need to get those heavy loads off your back. He'll be looking a long time in Houston for 635( it's in Dallas)...LOL. Now if he tries to find 610 and McCarty he will be fine!
Off the 610 loop. Remember we go where the freight goes however there is a lot of freight to and from Houston so you shouldn't have a problem getting there. Don't ever count on getting to hometime on time; the freight is in charge. Always. As Squeak said we have the hole called a terminal there and there are truck stops in Baytown and Katy. You can take hometime anywhere that has a zip code. I have an address in San Antonio but take hometime where I have galpals, where I want to go fishing or where I want to play cards among a few other pursuits.
Ok I getcha so man I cant wait till Thursday I know its gonna be a challenging journey trucking but im gonna keeo an open mind and a safe approach and keep learning every day thanks guys
