swr changes

I have an external swr watt meter... i had my 148gtl tuned with low swr... today i put my meter on and im getting readings of 2-3... any idead it wasnt snowing when i set it a couple weeks ago but it is today... would that cause problems

 

The short answer is "yes".

 

Ok... your right..checked it again today with clear weather and no snow and swr is good again... but if the snow is on antenna again and it makes swr high, will that hurt my radio or is it just misreading the measurement

 

Knock the snow off of it before transmitting and you'll be fine...Or get a Big old Amp and melt the snow off!:smt077

 

The less power you push the less likely you will be to have a problem.

 

AND ( Good morning Jessy ) what do you do if you live in Tampa Heck we ger snow about every 15 years .....

I am an avid SWR watcher as I run a mosfet-200 midnight special (x-force) amp off a DX-979. Antenna is a 102" s/s whip. SWR is 1.2 barefoot @ 8 dead-key /35 swing. When the amps on, SWR (inline meter between the amp and antenna) SWR is 2.5-3 until I modulate. Durring modulation with the amp on, SWR drops to 1.5 and fluctuates with the modulation.


I talk FAR barefoot & as far as Jamaca & Aloha with the amp on AM. Just wondering whatcha think on the swr thing.

SWR should not change with power or modulation something is wrong or at least going on ....
