My wife and I are new to trucking and teaming. Do we each need to log a Pre trip and Post trip when we swap drivers, as in, I get done driving and do a post trip, and she does a pre trip or vice versa? It seems redundant if she is checking everything in the pre I would be checking in the post, which is why I'm asking. What about sending in the Post trip macro on the qualcom, does that need to be done every time we mark we did a post trip? Thanks
Short answer is yes and no on the pre/post trips. You are pre-trip inspecting the truck so as long as you do not change loads, that is it is the same trip, you do not have to re-inspect the truck when you switch over. However, it takes at least 15 min to switch drivers so why not log one then anyways as this will cover you if a scale house or dot cop gets funky on you.
I believe it has to be logged each time by both of you, even if you are related; if something happened on your shift the looks would go to you, not the other person. Some companies require a safety check I guess it is called in the evening also. Just make sure you don't run yourself out of time before you stop for the post-trip though. Good luck.
i believe only a Pre-trip inspection is required by the DOT. However your company you drive for might require a pre and post trip on your logs. Check with your log dept.
You have it backwards...Post trip and completion of DVIR, the "pre-trip" is a verification of the previous driver's DVIR. Pre-trip is flagged (no time on line 4) post trip is 15 minimum line 4. Yes each driver needs to complete the pre/post trip paperwork before/after their driving shift. There is no such thing as "team logs"...each driver is responsible for their own log, as far as "teaming", your two separate logs need to work together...in other words, you can't both be driving (line 3) at the same time, but you could both be sleeper (line 2) at the same time. Just apply a little common sense.

You can't accept the previous driver's report as valid (when driving different shifts) and you can't accept the previous driver's report as valid when driving team, either. Any pre/post trip is to double check either yourself or the team driver. YOU need to know the truck is safe and YOU know this by pre-tripping the truck, not accepting the previous drivers report.
If I would have accepted my old co driver's post trip reports and not pretripping myself...well I probably wouldn't have a CDL anymore due to too many tickets.
