I am an owner op. I have a question: Can I tint my side windows? and if so, to what level? I have had some dangerous skin issues removed from my left arm and I am a little worried.
I can't answer about the darkness level. I do know there is a limit, check the green book regulations. But the level of UV protection is more important to you in this case and you can get good protection without having to go real dark.
The tinting must allow at LEAST 70% of the light in... there are, however some products that block harmful UV rays that are clear and completely legal... I'll try to locate the website and post a link.
Also you can have some serious problems with the left eye and left side of face. I had to get surgery on my left eye from sun damage; but, it's OK now.
Thank you all so much for taking the time to help me. I am going to do some research and talk to my doctor and the DOT. I love my job, just not willing to die for it.
I thought about tinting as well one time but on a cold windy night rolling the window down especially when raining is not an option and trying to bump a dock after dark in those conditions is to say the least a major PITA.
you can put clear (thick UV ray repelent) 3M window tint, then throw 35% on top of it. that's what I'm doing soon I always roll my windows down when I'm parking, best way to see true, and not reflexes or light images on the windows.. my .02
Just an FYI 393.60 Glazing in specified openings. (d) Coloring or tinting of windshields and windows. Coloring or tinting of windshields and the windows to the immediate right and left of the driver is allowed, provided the parallel luminous transmittance through the colored or tinted glazing is not less than 70 percent of the light at normal incidence in those portions of the windshield or windows which are marked as having a parallel luminous transmittance of not less than 70 percent. The transmittance restriction does not apply to other windows on the commercial motor vehicle.
