Was wondering what other tools i should take on the road with me. so far i plan to take my kobalt Mechanic tool set (138pc set), my 18v p/c sawzall, impact driver, and light. also planning on my trigger light propane torch ( plan to do otr so never know when 5th wheel freezes up etc ) a 5lb sledge hammer, prybar, and chisel set. anything else youd bring?
Then you don't need tools. They pay for repairs and have shops. They find out your working on their trucks might get you into trouble. Just qualcom them when have problem. Company drivers don't need to worry about that stuff. Nice gesture tho. GL and stay safe.
I agree with getrdun45 to an extent.... I would have some basic tools. But if you dont own it let them worry about it
Im sorry but I can see where he's coming from. If its a light, pigtails, or mudflap needing changed why wait and burn 2 or 3 hours off your clock to get something fixed that he could do himself? Something to add to the list would be a wiring kit. The ones that have splicers, butt connectors, and blade terminals.
biggare. good idea, didnt think of that. might as well chuck in my multimeter, and a roll or 2 of electrical tape. my thinking is, if the carrier i work for takes into account, i served in the Army as a mechanic ( diesel engine ) it should stand i know how to troubleshoot, which means less down time for the truck
Cause work comp will fire you if you got hurt while trying to play Mr. Mechanic. Simply ask your company. But I'd bet all my money on what they will say. Worry about driving and safety is enough to worry about. Go get a mechanics job if you wanna play mr fix it. I became a driver to drive. No different than a lawyer. Lawyer didn't go to law school to become a trash man did he. So leave mechanic problems to mechanics as I'm sure you need to accomplish being a driver first. JMO LOL
