Seems like a lot of the self-driving truck companies like Embark want to do "transfer hubs": Trucking industry looking at more hub-to-hub routes for drivers How common are transfer hubs (or things like it) currently? Does everyone usually just haul loads from dock to dock?
Many LTL, the USPS, railroads, and parcel companies run on a hub and spoke system. In the truckload sector though it is not very common.
