a few truck drivers I know told me that practically every truck nowadays share the same type of key such as the newer Freightliner's and Internationals and some Volvo's use a Chrysler key. Is this true? Another driver told me his laser cut Volvo key cost him $150 to get a copy of it made, if so that is insane for a truck key

I'm not sure about all trucks but the driver that told you about the Volvo is right... You cant just go to the Volvo dealer and have a key cut they have to send away for it... But like any parts for a Volvo it is a pain and expensive to get them...

Yikes. It's a shame that basically all car keys are getting to be expensive nowadays

Wow! For that money it aughta come complete with a driver! :biggrin_25511:

I have 10 drivers, each has a key to all trucks, for just that one truck that would be a $1750 investment per driver for keys!

I kept 4 spares for my 780. I got them for free from the shop.

Somehow I doubt they cost $150/ea to make.

A regular Volvo key can be cut on a Dodge truck key blank at Wally World for a couple of bucks. It is the 2002-2009 Dodge truck key

Keys for Macks are quite small, the size of padlock keys. I buy the blanks from the dealership and take them to a locksmith to get cut. Can't remember what it cost me but is was cheap for the keys and because the pattern on the keys wasn't very complex the locksmith made the fastest $20 bucks ever.

I bet a lot of people don't know that the rubber head of an OEM Freightliner key represents the signature Freightliner grille
