My company is thinking of buying a simulator to help in our training program. Can anyone tell me what they think of these or if you have used one what do you think of them
I just went through a simulator class with the company i work for and it was fairly easy. It definitely tests your performance as a professional when it comes to traffic conditions, weather and other daily hazards. I found it rather amusing to use since i play a lot of games. It is something I personally think all drivers should have to undergo in their training process to be a professional driver.
We just got simulators at TransX and they're definitely something. I've taken their course already and they ran us through a few scenarios including a skid pad for dealing with jackknife situations at different speeds. Be prepared for a feeling of nausea using it. I felt a little bit of it when I was on it. Quite the machines. Some had the seat actuators for movement, they can be set for auto or manual trans, and the ones we have require 7 computers to run. There is an emergency button in reach of the seat and our instructor told us not to touch it as it shuts everything down and requires a reboot of all the computers.
From my experience the simulator is only as good as the guy running it. I took the simulator class as it was required but it was just a stupid game with the instructor and didn't learn a thing.
I have heard this from many drivers. They say that to them it is just a game that it does't feel like a truck or drive like a truck. I guess i will have to drive one to find out. I have done a little checking up on them and it says that they help by preparing you to react to a situation
