So what kinda setup do I need to use the WiFi at places like Pilot or T/A all the way to the back of the lot? Will a 6 Dbl or 8 Dbl omnidirectional antenna be strong enough to pull in a good signal or will I need a directional antenna?
I just pick it up with the built in wifi in my laptop. It's not good though, you can check email and such, but can't game or watch movies on it. And the later it gets the worse it gets because more people are getting on it. Or it just isn't working at all, and inside they have no idea, you have to call the providing company. I just tether off my iphone. Also, you have to pay for it, which in my opinion is rediculous for such poor service. And yes I have used it all over the 48. Love's, Petro, TA, Flying J, and Pilot all use the Wandering WiFi service. But they are not linked. So if your planning to stop at Pilot/Flying J one night, and a Petro or TA the next, you are paying for two different services. If you don't already know, it's $1.99 and hour, $4.79 a day, or $20.00 a month for each service.
The closer to the hot spots the better, they're mounted where they can be seen. I'm sitting not more the `120 feet away from one right now... aaaa its still slooooowww I tried a directional a few years back.. once again, still had to be close and still slow forgot all about that til now
I think they would help if you could get them up enough to have a clear "line of sight" to the transmitter so the signal wouldn't drop every time a truck rolls by.
In the now, they may have better quality to offer today, I used that in 04/05,.. seems I forgot to turn on the inverter when leaving that last comment, once this unit had a good power source wifi speed picked up
maybe you could put the antenna on a extendable pole like i have seen other drivers use for there hd tv antennas.
