    Guys,

I just applied for my DOT # yesterday, 12/26/2021. I received an email from DOT that I am passed due on my UCR fees for 2021 and need to pay them immediately. There are 5 days left in this year. Is this something I need to pay or just pay for 2022.

    thanks

I have never been emailed about UCR from the FMCSA. It's likely from some scab UCR filing company that makes it look legit but when you go to the site it's not, & they charge extra to file. Here's the site that is legit: UCR

If you don't plan on operating this year then pay next years. It's based on equipment, so if you have 0 trucks operating this year then the fee is $0. "For for-hire motor carriers transporting property or passengers and motor private carriers transporting property, the UCR fees are based only on the total number of commercial motor vehicles operated."

When I filed for mine it was around the same time of year. I had to pay for both years to get started since it was filed for that year. It isn't much and could hold you up if not paid for. With that said I do not trust emails that are not from the source as most are scams or trying to make you pay them to do the job.

You’re going to get a lot of official looking emails and snail mail. 99.9% of it is garbage trying to take your money.

If you aren’t operating yet go into the FMCSA portal and change over to “intrastate” from “interstate” and the UCR stuff will go away. Of course change it back when you are preparing to operate and get your 2022 UCR, plates and IFtA tags. I got my DOT way in advance and had to do that while I waited. I got my emailed notices from a .gov email so pretty sure them were legit. But yes 95% of the time the stuff you get in the mail is extortion attempts/scams. Way I’m looking at it is if it’s not from a .gov email it’s not legit.

If you get any mail/emails wanting money and threatening fines……it’s most likely BS. I got a lot in the beginning (August 2021) and still occasionally get something. I saved them all just in case a class action lawsuit is ever filed so I can collect my $1.27 settlement :biggrin_2559:
