Ok so I plan on attending ATDS in waco tx or wherever it's actually at in october. They had me call their chiropractor who does the DOT physicals bc I have Amblyopia in my left eye and last time I checked it was just like 20/70 or so. Now I can make out the 20/40 line on the snellen chart it is just blurry. They said if my vision in that eye wasn't 20/40 I could get an intrastate waiver and drive in texas only. But I have also seen on the FMSCA website where they have given exemptions to people with the same eye condition to drive interstate. Does anyone know how that works?? Also do you have to get your eyes rechecked at the DMV when you goto get your liscense after trucking school is complete and do they use the snellen chart or an eye machine in Texas? I'm about to be out of a job soon and wan to hopefully transition into truck driving seemlessly.
I actually went to that school. They use a chart at the school for you initial test. The dmv there in waco uses the eye machine. You will do the initial dot physical with atds and study for you permit for like 2 days, then go down to test and get your permit. The bad part is depending on the company you start with, you will most likely do a physical for them also.
The only disqualifier is Monovision and you cannot get a waiver for that disorder. If you test 20/40 in your eyes I would clear you. Yes you have to get your eyes rechecked at the DMV. That is a state department and FMCSA is federal.
I have amblyopia,and started off getting the Texas Intrastate.Texas DPS has the paperwork. Then got the Interstate exemption from FMCSA. Have to get eye exam every 2 years.Not a problem as long as your overall vision is 20/40 or better.
