If Rand and Garmin would stop being greedy and just release an app like smart truck route it would be all good. But they want to keep releasing junk units and want you to pay for new units to get new features every year.

    tow614 Thanks this.

I don't REALLY mind the upgraded units, that much, IF the units actually worked right, provided up to date current info and added enough features that it was worth it.
I mean i buy a new car every few years for partly new features. a new computer, new phone, all for the same reasons. BUT they work!!

That’s just it. The app would work with your phones new hardware which is top specs. These units are 5 year behind with low old outdated processors low ram low resolution display and old android software.

I bought that tomtom 620 spur of the moment yesterday morning. By that afternoon I traded it for the Garmin 580. The Garmin is alright but the display is #### quality. I can’t return it now due to the fact exchange only.

Prolly still gonna run copilot on iPad. Garmin is nice with all the eye candy features and alerts. I wasn’t going to attempt rands crap

    Very true
But there is also something to be said to having a dedicated GPS.....
and not running to many apps on your phone or tablet.......
Don't get me wrong. I agree with you. the RM, Garmin, TomTom, all are behind in every way what my Note 8 or my tablet can do, display, speed and Memory. But i did have to add a second tablet to my setup because i can only display so much at once and run so many things at once on each tablet. So now i have 2 tablets running different apps and i would have no problem running Copilot or Smart truck on either one of them, or if need be, replace the RM with a 3rd Tablet, dedicated to gps.
It would just be nice to see one of the 3 come out with a product that was actual current with today tech and today's abilities.
But then again, i want a 8 month summer in Upstae NY, ain't getting that either...........

I have the overdryve 8 pro with what is supposed to be the latest map updates yet it still tries to route me thru 75 out of Detroit even though that lane has a huge chunk of it closed for construction... and still doesn’t know the new bridge out of Louisville on 65 into Indiana has been open for over a year now...

That's one one of the issues we have been talking about on here.
ALL of the maps that RM uses, and i believe Garmin also come from a company called "HERE" and the process that at least RM uses is insane. basically all of the driver inputs, state and local updates get sent to HERE, they verify, then update their maps, send it back to RM and whoever else. RM then Verifies again before sending them out to us. So EVER SINGLE MAP UPDATE is at least 1-2 years behind reality.
YEARS!!!! How the hell can we depend on that kind of information when we are driving and routing down the road, and the GPS is basing its routing on 1-2 Year old Info???? Roads that are open that now are not, roads that were closed that have been opened for over a year. New roads, weight or height restrictions that have been long since corrected, etc.....
I can't tell you how many times mine has tried to force me off a road or Highway or an insane route because it thinks there is a low clearance, weight restriction, no road or something else stupid. thank god I happen to know those areas, but how many more has it done it that i don't know?
and i can't just go by Google, because it doesn't have a truck route.
You will never get a current or correct map on any RM device, because they use HERE and the way they do it. and its a shame, they get thousands of Driver feedback and updates every day, but they don't use them the way they should.
SO...................... my only option is to switch over..............

I got a 7" Samsung Tab Lite for $59 at walmart and use it dedicated for the Smart truck route app.
    Works great...
Use less than 1 gig a month in data tethered to my phone.

    Bank_Lbr Thanks this.

I have an 8 inch and a 10 inch. I think i'm goin to take one and put Smart truck on it this week and give it a try and see how i like it against CoPliot.
I just canl't take RM anymore. the 3 things that drive me nuts, is the routes are old, so it doesn't route me on a good current route and the lack of traffic with an automatic reroute option. #### it, if i'm heading into traffic, tell me and give me an option.
