Can someone advise me what is the industry standard for wait time?

I've heard a truck should be expected to wait anywhere from 1-2 hours (free) before the customer is charged.

What's the "real deal" and is it written down somewhere? Thx.

A "standard" reply can't really be given to the question. Policy differs from company to company on whether they charge it and if they do, if they pass it on to their drivers.

I used to have times where as soon as i pulled into the lot, their dock supervisor was at my window giving me a door assignment, then the worst was one time when I got to the place at a touch after 11am...They told me it would be a "little bit " till they got to me....finally at 7pm they told me to hit a door, they loaded me in about 10 minutes, and I left......and went back to the truck stop and crawled into my bunks....it was a 400 mile load, and it did'nt have to be there till the next day at 5pm....

    Best answer would be......"it depends."....:biggrin_2554:

Goodun, wait times have been a thorn in the side of drivers forever. There is no federal/state laws addressing this. It's up to trucking companies/shippers/consignees to agree on a rule. Some have a rule and it is abided by. Some don't and it is a free for all at the dock. But, things have gotten better over the years with an appointment system. Problem is, it seems the shippers/consignees don't have to honor the appointment, but, the driver does. And then the trucking companies don't want to upset the consignee wirh a detention charge.

    Yea...that sucks....

I was on a dedicated account and this was a system backhaul....I usually never had to wait very long to unload, and 9 out of 10 times my trailer was loaded when I go to the yard....
