Out of service O/O question. Will this hurt me getting loads?

I got a flat tire while deadheading and made the mistake of trying to limp it to the nearest Loves to have it replaced. Along the way I got pulled over and placed OOS. I've only had my authority for about 7 months and have 1 clean level on inspection before this screw up. My question is what is this going to do to my business. A 50% OOS rating sounds like a death punch to get loads and stay insured. I use progressive, with no other claims and a perfect driving record will they drop me?

 

It’s not going to help with booking loads for sure, but I don’t see your insurance dropping you. They see what it was for and not only look at the percentage.

Maybe you can get yourself a fresh inspection so you know all is good, then drive to the scale house and kindly ask for one from the officer.

 

Where'd that happen at? DPS wouldn't give you a break?

 

Just work on getting close to 5 or 6 clean insp. and you will be looking fairly good to anyone that cares?

A safe stopping area yes. The emergency lane on the express way is seen as a safe stopping area in some cases. The reg is meant to not penalize someone for going up to the next parking lot on a two lane road or such. It's not meant to allow a driver to go to the next truckstop when roadside can change the tire. Maybe the next exit, but to pass an exit because you don't want to pay roadside is not a valid reason.

 

I got put OOS once, in Ohio. Tire wasn’t even flat, but was less than 50% inflated. I had picked up a nail, somewhere between Cincinnati and the scale on 71 N. Filled tire up, and left. I tried to reason, saying I’ll get it fixed immediately. Didn’t matter. It’s not the end of your Trucking adventure. Insurance shouldn’t be affected. Brokers shouldn’t care, till it gets past 75%. Then only a few. It will stay on the Company for 30 mos. Good inspections will counteract it.

 

They said if I come through here again to make #### sure everything is above board and stop by the scale and they will reinspect to help with the OOS percentage.

 

same thing happened to me in Ohio. There was an “audible leak” coming from one of the trailer tires. Sure enough it had a nail and the inflation system was keeping it up. Didn’t matter. OOS and had to call a road service. Complete bs and I swear they threw nails out front of the scale entrance! lol

Such is life.
