Guess what would happen if you didn't let $2 per mile man in? Eventually word will get around to shipper someone is hauling for $2 and you won't get your $4 anymore, let alone $3. I have experienced similar things with routine customers I've worked with. Rate would be one thing for a while, then it massively drops and I won't haul it anymore. The same load. They tell me these EASILY move for $2 a mile all the time now so they're not paying any more. I'm talking 48k tarp loads out of normally good areas. I feel like I have lost all my negotiation power. You're cant pull anything off when there's countless trucks hauling for less and less. Maybe that one guy was right, let it all burn to the ground. There's too many trucks out here. Guys running around for $1.50 a mile with $200,000 in equipment payments won't last that long.
This what we are all waiting on. Those holding on were waiting on the holiday push that isn't happening or diesel prices dropping which is a pipe dream. If you look at job openings at the LTL's there are very few and I even noticed the Schneider and JB Hunt of the world's have curtailed their openings. Look at Craigslist too, this time last year there were 100's and now it's slim. As I mentioned on a previous post, I'm in the heart of chicken/turkey land and this is normally the busiest time of the year for reefer but it barely has a pulse. Broker's are out there posting loads $2.25 per mile. We are in the early innings of the purge with much more pain to come. We need a few of the megas to go under and drivers get fed up they aren't getting miles and leave the industry to really put a dent in the overcapacity.
My guess he is failed O/O or a kid with fingerless leather gloves playing Billy Big Rigger in his bedroom...
This account has one post in its history prior to today and that was 6 months ago. Now suddenly my thread has brought you back. We are blessed.
Whatever happened to "people always need to eat"? Heard that all the time as why reefer is a safe haven when it comes to rates. Reefer guys are in the toilet with the rest of us now.
