Probably fiction. But if you do the math, my company has 400 drivers and on average hires one driver a day to replace on average one driver a day that quits. So it's safe to say 1 in 400 drivers quit everyday at my company. But let's go half that and say 1 in 800 drivers quit everyday. No let's go four times less and say 1 in 1600 drivers quit everyday.

With some 3,000,000 drivers out there, that's 1875 drivers that quit everyday. Even lower yet, I'd say it's safe to say 1000 drivers quit everyday. But I'm sure it's higher. 60 drivers is squat, lol. :)

Edit: I just seen this is a Maverick thread, oops! But still I never thought about total stats for the industry. Mind blowing numbers!

No Maverick didnt have 60+ drivers quit at once. We have had some drivers leave because we have went to electronic logs, btw if you think going to a company that still uses paper will do you any good then you need to do more reading. This is the rule effective beginning 2012 so learn to like it or not but it is coming to your truck. As for all those empty trucks on our yard you will notice they are new trucks. We order approximately 250+ a year depending on need.

FMCSA made the new rule sometime this year? Plus congress is also looking at making it a law because they felt the FMCSA wasnt acting quickly enough. From what Ive read the rule becomes effective 1/1/2012 with a two year grace period to comply. This is something the ATA has been pushing. So whether by congressional law or FMCSA rulemaking its coming sooner rather than later. Next up-speed limiters. Dont kid yourself. Thats coming too.

ATA plus a number of citizens groups have been lobbying congress for a maximum 65mph limiter on all commercial trucks. Unless enough drivers get together to lobby congress against that the conclusion is pretty much already known. We all know drivers wont ##### til after it happens.

And of course you can post a link to this...will there be an EOBR shortage if we ALL need one between now and the end of the year? Where would I source one? How much are they? How do I install one? Will it rain tomorrow? Where is my tinfoil hat?
