I am a 15 year driver and my wife and i have desided to become teams. Heres the problem with the new csa laws my wife has to either go to a school or have years experience. we cannot afford a school at this time and eventho she has her learners we cannot find a company that will put me on and train her. we have contacted the low llfe companies ie england etc but they want the wife to go thru their school (which is fine) but then the wife would have to ride for 5-6 weeks with a stranger then be brought into my truck. how can i get my wife legal to drive so we can be teams?
My wife and I used Covenant - they sucked, but there was no training for her, and no upgrade tests or anything like that - she was fresh out of school, I was experienced, and we started running. Now... with that said, I don't recommend them, they're a pretty horrible company, don't care about drivers, run e-logs, chasing trailers for days, etc. I'd do some searching and calling before giving up and going with them, Swift, CRE, etc.
the only way i can think of is for you to join a company that has min requirements to become a trainer then when you make those requirements she goes to school and then trains with you. but i would get it in writing . many companies have women trainers 4 or 5 weeks then you could team up after just a thought welcome to the forum
The requirement for approved training or experience is an insurance requirement. This is pretty well industry wide. I do not know of any company that will want to take on a new driver without them attending school first. If you will search some threads on here you will find drivers with their Class A CDL and local experience who can't get an OTR job without going to school first.
This is an excellent point. I read a post, I believe by G/MAN, in which he said he hated to hear companies called Bottom Feeders because it reflected poorly on those who drove for those companies. This really hit a chord with me. I still call them Starter Companies or Mega-Companies but I refrain from being too negative.
I know that there are a few companies out there that will let you train your wife, after you work for them at least 30 days. I am going to USX just for that main reason. Now of course, she will have to attend school to get her CDL but good luck finding a company that will train her, not many left. Besides, College programs are the cheapest and take longer, ie; she gets more training. My wife will be attending Chattanooga State and than sign on with USX. By than, I will have more than 30 days with them and she will be my trainee...LOL At least that is our plan. Good Luck
I believe I read in one of those truck stop mags about a company that has a train your spouse program. I think it was CRST, check that out or maybe someone else has a better idea one what company does that. Good luck
