Does anyone know of a age restriction on driving? Only thing I found was you have to be able to pass the physical.
I met an O/O in MO at Old Castle Materials....He was 82 years young....He hired a youngin' of 50 to help him with the tarping.....
I was taught to drive a rig by a man who was 76.... one of the best of the Best. May He Rest In Peace.
Got y'all beat- I once worked for a local company which had a 84yo driver. Hard work, too, driving tanker, hooking hoses to load and unload, climbing up on top of the trailer, etc, etc. What I found funny- this guy was as spry and ornery as could be. Very fit, very active. One day, the mechanic asked me to take his truck for inspection. When I did, I found his snack stash: Little Debbie cakes, Cheez-its, Chips Ahoy, Pringles, everything the "experts" tell us not to eat. Made me laugh, and also realize our attitude and our genes play a more important role in how we age than anything else.
the driver i was talking about rode his bike 11 miles a day....perect shape...very active..had to have triple bypass....makes no sense, but recovered great and came back to work.
We had a guy a few years ago at a large carrier running on a dedicated contract that was well into his 70's. Did the multi stop stuff and helped unload with no issues. He'd probably still be trucking but some punk kid gave him some lip and he told him where he could go and well...that was that. Pretty sad, great driver and all around nice guy. Last I heard he hung it up and was golfing almost every day.
